Great opener in the Northern Zone of NY. All woodies.

Nice going Craig,

If I could hunt one duck, it would be woodies. We have put nesting boxes on our property and had a pair use one the last 2 years. They are beautiful ducks.

Wow Craig! That’s an amazing limit of ducks. Nice shooting and I’ll bet Nellie did a great job retrieving.

Just makes me smile looking at Nellie posing with the birds.
Now tell us what hardware kept Nellie busy.

LOL. Many of us have experienced a young, enthusiastic lab in the duck blind. Also, when we were at the Vintagers, I recall you mentioned that she’s a fairly muscular dog. :)

Looks like a great opener! Woodies are a staple for us in the Deep South, but I’m not complaining because they are beautiful and delicious.

Daryl: we hunted a swamp on the north side of Oneida lake. Shot my Sterlingworth 12ga 30" with Boss fiber wads #4.

Beautiful pup and woodies are the best tasting duck!
Do you save any of the barred feathers they are great for fly tying wings and tails!

Craig;
Woodies and swamps/small rivers go great with a smallbore Fox. Didn't Mark bring one of his little beauties out?

Mark did hunt his 32" GH Parker straight grip 20ga, he's a great duck shot. For the average guy a 12ga is a much better choice for woodies in my opinion. Up here recovering a duck that's not dead in the air is nearly impossible even with a good dog. These swamps up here are hell on earth, nearly impossible to walk any distance. 95% of the time the dog doesn't see the fall so most retrieves are blinds. No place for a young pup.

Great dog! Thanks for the post. Seldom see wood ducks around here. Their flank feathers are prized by fly tyers.
