Found a really nice 1899 B at the Novi show. Caliber 38-55 with a 26 “ octagonal barrel.Built in 1904 it appears to be perhaps a deluxe model as is nicely checkered and engraved. I will be getting a letter for this one.

SPE33, saw that rifle yesterday. Very nice gun. I wondered if it was custom engraved. Keep us posted once you get the letter. I looked it over and Keith and I discussed it. Very clean bore with great rifling. Congrats!!

Very nice!! The engraving and checkered stock cheeks look like a considerably earlier version of the K-Grade engraving and checkering. My Great Uncle Gus Gustafson had a K-Grade in 300 Savage that took quite a few deer and a couple of elk in Washington during the 1930s & 40s.

The letter arrived today.Sent in a large envelope so there are no creases in it.Watermarked paper with a Cody museum stamp like a notary would use.The gun was factory engraved and sent to a large distributor of hardware and sporting goods in Chicago in 1902.Sadly there isn’t much more information available.Caliber and barrel length are not even mentioned.
