Fox Collectors

Does anyone know if all factory 3” Super Fox guns had 3IN. stamped on barrel flats? Are there any other markings that would distinguish factory 3” gun? Thanks

They were not all marked and you would have to have them measured by someone with the proper tools to determine if it is factory 3" chambers.

Very few original 12 ga/3-inch Supers left the factory without the special and proprietary 3 IN. chamber stamp, no doubt an oversight by the workman that day. I have gauges to confirm/deny factory 3-inch chambers and often do that while at shows and shoots in the east. However lately I've heard of fellas who claim I did that on their Super-Fox and all is well - even though I never measured their gun. If anyone is told that Silvers or Frank a former Fox BD member did that on their unmarked Super be sure to ask for my written documentation showing that serial number.

Another scenario are the 3 IN. stamped Supers that have been opened up with a commercial 3-inch chamber reamer to more easily accept the full range of factory shell tolerances. Again my special gauges will show that. Often such guns have ejector timing issues.

Well now that might explain why I’m having a hell of a time getting once fired 3” high brass hulls to resize well enough to slide in and out of my HE easily . Incidentally I think all the once fired hulls I have were fired in pumps or semi auto’s so certainly the chambers were more sloppy .

I was only loading 1 3/8 ounces of shot FWIW I also tried resized unloaded hulls and got the same thing . I did a stupid thing with the first few at the shop , after getting them loaded I walked up front got a Remington 870 Express of the rack and fired a couple in the snail to see how bad the thump was and what the primers looked like . All was A-OK or so I thought . The next day I loaded 100 with 7 1/2’s , 100 with 6’s and 50 with 4’s . I was at a private 5-stand a week later and learned the cold hard facts about the brass resizing . These loads function fine in my A-5 mag and Benelli Montefeltro so it’s no big deal other than time wasted . But I wanted to take the HE to Prospect Hall for a tower shoot this year and use 3” 1 3/8 ounce handloads . I can do it in 2 3/4” and have loaded a few that drop in fine , just wanted to do it with the long hulls as well .

So Craig, now you got a Super-Fox. Good deal. I'm thinking back to July when you won the Diesel Smoke SBT event with a long run while at the Northern SxS. Great shooting! But when I asked what your SBT gun was you replied with a big smile and very firmly it was a Parker. Maybe we can influence you into getting a Fox SBT in coming days? Kind of like driving a Corvette as compared with a Hudson. Just sayin. frank

I'm not a Corvette kinda guy more inline with Packard's , hmmmm thats kinda profound Parker/Packard
FWIW I've actually got three Parker SC traps a pair of 32" and the 34" I used at Mike's and during you guys Letterman thing . At the Letterman event I brought the same 34" gun and had never fired it except to test fire after I got it until that event . Anyway the first 8 targets I shot at the Letterman I broke then chokes on the last two so between that and Mike's I've shot that gun at 40 targets and broken 35 . And have yet to shoot it on a trap field !

All BS aside I'm in the midst of a life change . Well unless something drastic changes it's my intention to be living full time in the South Pacific by the first quarter of 2024 . So my enlarging my accumulation isn't so much anymore and rather it's more like trying to liquidate a good portion .

I have intentions to try and get three 12 gauge shotguns into the Philippines in my wifes name . The first being my beater AH Fox A grade that was upgraded and restocked at some point , a Parker VH 2 frame 2 barrel set and a Reminton 32 TC 30'" thats quite tight .

Since you and Mr. Larter started with the Model 11's I've been kinda taken with them . Always liked them before just never had more than one at a time now I have five and an extra barrel or two . Model 32's are the same never had more than 1 or 2 of them at a time but I sure would like to add a few if I were not planning on leaving .

Yeah Craig, Packards are neat too. How about driving a Packard vs. a Hudson? Next time I see you I'll tell you about the '37 Packard business coupe my cousin and I turned into a coal dump/dune buggy when we were young.

I do hope your plans of getting to the South Pacific with your wife work out. I've been following your posts on the Parker site.

Just one correction, you referred to "you" (me) and Craig Larter in reference to Remington Model 11 semis. Craig L. is correct in that reference but it wasn’t me; you might be thinking of Dave (Researcher). I do think the Remmy 11's are ok but I like Browning Auto-5's better. The real deal so to speak. IMO. frank

Off Topic from the "Super Fox 3", but..... I really like my Browning A-5, but I've never studied the Model 11 enough to be able to identify the difference between the two. What did Carole Lombard use when she was shooting with hubby Clark Gable?

Carol is shooting a Remington Sportsman, the three-shot version of the five-shot Model 11.

I’m not adverse to A-5’s I sold off five of them in the last two years . But I still have a pair a 12 Mag and a 20 Mag .

If Marcellus Hartley who owned Remington Arms Co. and Union Metallic Cartridge Co. hadn't died while John M. Browning was waiting in the outer office to meet with Marcellus, there might never have been an A5.

Dave, thanks for identifying the gun. As for the owner of Remington dying while Browning was in the waiting room, I just read about that in a DU magazine a couple of days ago.
