What happened to all the informative posts!?!
Hmm…seems that anyone who was pretty excited about sharing info on here has decided to just quit. For anyone that regularly visits this site, you know damn well that there were several individuals including myself who would often provide very useful info, but it was often received poorly or met with negative comments. I have stopped posting altogether and removed all of the photos I had posted because of this. Seems I am not alone. Oh well, I’m ok with not sharing but still see it as a real shame. There was a lot of knowledge being shared at one point but those days are apparently long gone. Frank, I know you are seeing this.
Peace!

Re: What happened to all the informative posts!?!
I have always been very appreciative of those who go to the trouble to post helpful things related to Fox guns, and have always tried to express that appreciation. Maybe there have been times I've slipped up. If so, my sincerest apologies, because I understand the effort that is required to do that well.Fox20obsessed wrote:Hmm…seems that anyone who was pretty excited about sharing info on here has decided to just quit. OTOH, we need to keep in mind that this is a forum that is made up of a large cross section of our society, and we have one thing in common that draws us here .......... Foxes. If we expect everyone to express appreciation for what we do when we offer informational help we are burying our head in the sand. This is life, and it's not going to happen. I try to live by the axiom that if I can help one person through a difficult time by expending a little effort, it is worth it. I don't need to reach a threshold number of "pats on the back" to feel rewarded. But, that's just me, OMMV.
Again, thanks for your informative posts of the past .......... they will be missed by me.

There's no doubt the number of posters sharing technical Fox info - and even adventures while shooting/hunting with Foxes - have declined over recent years, and as a Founding Life Member who’s been here since Day 1, I've been commenting about that trend for some time now now. At the same time the number of collector and historical type posts/replies seem to be stable. Actually all that is happening despite an increase in membership. Some of the past frequent posters have developed new interests and we see their enthusiasm and activity on other maker forums. Others have gotten tired of posting to educate or even to entertain. Why spend your time doing a coherent post and often with pics when you see 200+ views and only 3 replies that acknowledge your effort? I'm sure there are other factors at play here, but all told it it seems that enthusiasm has been waning and perhaps the old dictum about not appreciating things until after they're gone, is playing out.
All this is just my take on things fwiw.

Re: What happened to all the informative posts!?!
Speaking only for myself, I have zero talent in the field. Sometimes I share what I think is correct based on what I've read or heard somewhere and find out its not. When that happens a few times you start to question whether its worth putting out information that you yourself don't have first hand experience with. Accordingly in this particular sub forum I try not to wander into areas that I don't know that much about. Therefore I keep my posts centered on using my Foxes or chasing behind a nice little bird dog. I'm just more into the hunting aspect of using Foxes more then the technical side of things..

Re: What happened to all the informative posts!?!
Folks are on hobby websites for all kinds or reasons. I don't do anything on my own guns beyond really minor stuff and I'm not into upgrades so the technical stuff doesn't interest me much. If I ask a question and someone provides some input that certainly merits a thank you, and if I've been remiss on that I apologize. If someone makes a post I assume it's because they want to share, or perhaps highlight their expertise, but it's not something of interest or use to me I don't think it warrants a comment or thank you. In my experience making posts on a website and looking for pats on the back is futile; most folks won't think your stuff is as interesting as you do !

Re: What happened to all the informative posts!?!
Frank made a comment that the collector/historical posts seem to be stable. Well, maybe the posts are stable, but the replies are not anywhere near stable. Oh, well, Fox history is not near as interesting to our readers as information on the guns themselves.

Re: What happened to all the informative posts!?!
One situation that keeps posters disappointed in the lack of replies is the lack of a "thanks" button. The PGCA forum has the "thanks" feature and it allows readers to express their appreciation for a post without actually replying. Maybe Craig could add that feature to our forum.

Very well said Stan I couldn't agree more. I spend untold hours with membership, the treasury, legal filings with the State of Delaware and IRS, the forum administration, newsletter printing and distribution, etc. I don't expect any "pats on the back", I do it for my own satisfaction. Our Association will never meet the standards of some it's just the way it is.Stan Hillis wrote:I have always been very appreciative of those who go to the trouble to post helpful things related to Fox guns, and have always tried to express that appreciation. Bill, have you found a way to take those "Thanks" and "Likes" to the bank? Or do you hang them up on the wall and look at them once in a while at least?

Brian, we have had several? members, you know their names, who have expressed disappointment at not being recognized for their posts. I think those guys would like to have something to hang on their walls. Me, I'm too old to care. I give my information at no cost and no expectation of thanks or anything else.

I'm in agreement with Bill about this feature as well. No different than a "like" on "love" on social media platforms. I take it as a acknowledgement. What does it hurt?eightbore wrote:One situation that keeps posters disappointed in the lack of replies is the lack of a "thanks" button. Brian, your wall must be covered and bank full of those as I've given you a bunch over the years!
