Old ledgers can be so interesting. I have my grandfather's, from the early to mid 1900's. He owned a big farm here (which my son and I still farm) and kept the accounts of everyone who worked for him and to whom he lent money. They referred to it as "Mr. Minis' red cornered book". One particular fellow named Johnny Day went to FL without getting grandad paid up. He got run over by a train down there. When grandad heard the news he drew two lines underneath the balance owed and wrote in big cursive letters "Paid up, by being dead". Oftentimes entries will give a peek into the personality of the owner.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, SS.

The ledger covers the period of time that Godshalk acquired the business from Ansley Fox. Pretty interesting around 1912. Anyone know how Godshalk and Fox originally got together and more specifically, when?
