B grade Phila. arms

Post by DarylC »

As a new member to the Fox collectors assn. I have a lot to learn. First I would like to thank all the guys at the display table at the Vintagers, very impressive, and for the three year membership for my squeaky win in the Fox challenge. Now my question is about a Phila. arms Fox. I just found this gun while out in SD bird hunting. It is a B grade, 32", st grip, .035/.035, four digit s/n, in all original condition with great case, wood and blue. This gun is exactly as listed in the Macintosh book. Are these guns of any value and are they considered Fox guns by all you collectors and shooters?

Congrats on finding a great gun!! Post some pictures and give us the complete poop, including serial number, on this gun so I can add it to my table of observed specimens. So far I've recorded 37 Philadelphia Arms Co. guns, and the 13 with 4-digit serial numbers have all been A-Grades. I've recorded three B-Grades in the 7xx and 8xx range, all 30-inch guns. The one in the 7xx range has been at Las Vegas and Reno the last few years. It has a hideous restock and a beavertail forearm. The dealer was asking $4495 and as I recall thye last time I saw it the asking price had jumped to $6500!!!!!! IMHO the metal would be worth maybe a grand as a basis for a restoration.

We picture my rather rare C-Grade, that was at The Vintage Cup, and an ultra rare D-Grade on our web site --

Daryl, my B Grade PAC, which should be one of the ones in Researcher's data, is serial number 873. Maybe we can get together for a photo session with the two guns. My gun came out of Maryland, and I refer to it as "Ansley's Baltimore pigeon gun" since it came out of MD and has a deactivated safety. Bill Murphy

Daryl, welcome to the Fox Collectors and the forum. I can't contribute much on your PAC gun but I did enjoy talking with you while at the Vintage Cup. Your story about your A grade was interesting; sounds like there's a good story on your PAC gun too. I am sending you a PM. Frank
