Fox sees the light of day after 60 years

I had an opportunity to buy a Fox from the original family. It was purchased in Scranton PA about 1923 according to the family. The original owner, the sellers grandfather was an avid hunter. The gun past through two generations of non-hunters never being used allegedly stored in a case under a bed since the late 1950's. No real condition but they are still out there to be discovered if you turn over enough stones. Nice little 20ga AE with 26" barrels. The original owner also had a Winchester 62 .22, Winchester 1894 and a Fox AE 12ga, he had all the bases covered for a hunter in PA back in the day. Craig Larter

Nice find Craig. I assume you checked the Record Card for the consignee. I once had a factory letter signed by Ad Roll addressed to a sporting goods store on Penn Ave in Scranton, about 3 blocks from my high school. That would be cool if one and the same. I did a quick search and couldn't find a scan of it, but I'll look later on an older computer and let you know if I find it. frank

In his day, he probably was considered a gun guy, having more than just a 12 gauge pump and a .22 for everything.

Is that fore-end wood a bit longer than normal? Looks long in your first picture.

Dave the forend is the standard 9". The gun did go back to be fitted with ejectors, it shipped as an A. I will do an article if I can get approval from the family they are very private.

Guess it just appeared long because of the 26-inch barrels.

I see Barnett has a AE 20ga for sale for 13.5k very close in serial number to my gun. Barnett's price is more than 10 times what I paid for mine, just shows how condition determines value.

Not only condition Craig, but who is selling it.
Nice find. That stock wouldn't take a lot of work to clean up and besides I think it's just lovely the way it is.
I have a couple of Win62's and they are one of my favorite .22's to plink with.
Owning a Fox is not a spectator sport.
