The ad said rough Fox for sale $250

I got a call from Chris Dawe in Canada who some of you know letting me know he saw a gun posted for sale on a web forum - Fox gun for sale 32" barrels in rough and rusty shape $250. The guy was not keen to post or send pictures but he said the gun closed, it cocked and fired, the barrels although rusty were usable, and it had ejectors. I figured worst case it would be a great parts gun. I don't remember who closed the deal but with a little shipping money the gun was on the way to Chris.

Chris called me a week later and was laughing on the phone saying your not gonna believe it but the Fox showed up and its a HE Super-Fox. He said it smelled awful like swamp water, the ejectors were hanging up and it needed tightened up but there is probably a decent gun behind all the gunk with some effort. 12 months later and the project is off and running, we chose a classic straight grain stock with basic figure and it should be shaped out pretty good in the next few days. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Great story and nice gun too! It's going to make one heck of a nice duck gun.

I missed a rusty HE for a little more money than that about 10 years ago. I was the third caller or so I was told. The seller said that the first caller asked a lot of questions and said he'd get back to him. The second caller snatched it up without hesitation and as soon as he got off the phone with that guy he said I called. I felt pretty bad for myself but I would have felt worse if I was the guy who called first and was too timid to pull the trigger.

Keep us posted on the progress. We all appreciate stories like this.

Congratulations on the deal you got and for bringing a Super back from the grave. There's not enough of them around to allow one to rust away. Glad you "got to it" in time.

Do you plan to completely redo all the metal, to include re-casehardening the action?

I remember well the day Chris called me to tell me of the Fox he had found. I said "I'll buy it" instantly. Imagine my disappointment to find that he had already spoken to Brian! I guess I'm Chris's second best friend......Bwahahahaha! BTW Chris, shipping two guns and some wood to you today.

To be honest we talked about getting it clean and back together as a shooter, a rat rod approach for the duck boat but it gonna get a full treatment..... wood, recut, barrels, case color
