2. If I understand correctly the Cody museum has a letter for where this shotgun was sent and Savage has the build record for the shotgun.

A is the grade of the gun. The appended E means a gun with automatic ejectors.

Savage sent the A.H. Fox build card records they had held to Cody. Savage is out of the letter business. The A.H. Fox Collectors Association, Inc. has photocopies of the production cards for graded guns. No Sterlingworth records. Dues paying members get one free look up per year. The production cards are the only surviving records. For decades letters were produced from the information on the cards by retired Savage employees -- first Roe Clark --

Are build card records and production cards the same record?
