Fox transformation
Re: Fox transformation
One step closer. The Fox went back to the engraver for the shield to be engraved and then off to the exporter. I’m guessing a few months from now it will be back to me. I will post some nice pictures once I have it in hand. It’s been a very satisfying project. I can’t wait to shoot some pigeons and Eurasian dove at the dairy this summer, followed by Mearns quail this fall.
Re: Fox transformation
The shield was completed yesterday and gun will ship to Borderview for import back to the states this week. I am guessing it will be another few months before I will get it back as it needs to clear customs.here is a picture of the shield. BR for Brady Rose.

Re: Fox transformation
Thanks guys. Gun is at Borderview for import. Just takes time I guess to get all of the paperwork approved. Kind of crazy because I had them export you would think the Government agencies would be able to process faster. Unfortunately that is not the case. Looking forward to shooting this Fox. Will post some pictures at that time.

Re: Fox transformation
Your Fox is over the top but tastefully done in my opinion. What a a treasure.
Re: Fox transformation
I liked your idea and purchase the leather for a custom slip case this week. This gun is to be used. Like most of my favorite shooters they don’t live in a break down case. No sheepskin, just a leather lined saddle leather slip case.vaturkey wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 9:53 amcoues wrote:Just a quick update. The metal has returned from the engraver and Chris has assured proper fit of the wood/metal of the frame and other pieces.
All of the parts to be case hardened will be going out this week. Once completed it’s off to be final polish and French Grayed.
In the meantime. The barrels and other small items will get properly blued and checkering of the wood will be completed.
I will post additional pictures soon as the transformation continues.
Now to decided on a proper case for this Fox project. I still have not decided on what I want. I really like the A&F toe under style cases My 410 and 28 gauge Francotte’s came in. Thoughts on this are welcome.
I also like the A&F toe under cases for display. That said, you would be shocked how many barrels get dropped while assembling guns while in the field. Good well lined leather slip is easy to use for field use and at the end of the hunt back into the nice leather take down case.
My dear friends Bryan and Val Davis that own R Lloyd Davis and Sons retired and closed the shop to the public about 10 years ago but still do custom jobs for myself and a few close friends, for which I am grateful.
Their history is not only a father that was world respected saddle maker but did custom work for A&F back in the day. Custom slip cases, saddle scabbards, shell carriers, etc. while his sons helped from an early age and learned the trade from their father a Master in the trade.
We haven’t designed what we will have carved on the case yet. Maybe something simple. Then again……
A few pictures of some quality work
Re: Fox transformation
Well the FOX jumped over the border and landed in Tucson at my gun dealer today. Just one quick picture, with more to follow. Called my friend Dave that raises game birds and asked him to meet me tomorrow with some Chucker’s at our training area South of Tucson. Will shoot some birds over the dogs in the morning. I need to start putting some provenance on this gun for my granddaughter. Thursday will shoot some clay pigeons and some Z birds. With a quick trip to the dairy very soon for some Eurasian dove and pigeons.
I like the looks of the Parker repro case so I will have one I own modified. They look a lot like the Vintage A&F cases. I also have in the works a custom tooled Leather slip case by my friends that in the day made leather hunting gear for A&F.
A Special thanks to Chris Dawe who’s hard work, skills and patience went into making my dream Arizona Quail gun.
5 lbs 15 Oz 28” ejector FOX.
