That picture Craig posted that included the "Tin Can Louie" call is a Bill Headrick picture of 30069, either from McIntosh's book or Bill's The Double Gun Journal article "Caldwell Had a Becker."

I have no knowledge of the call, but knowing that Mr. Headrick hailed from Cape in MO, I would venture a guess and say that Kent Freeman from around Kennet, MO may have had a hand in it.

If not, he is very capable of it.

Thanks everybody. Just asked because it looked like a top quality call that I'd never seen before. Besides guns, I collect calls a little bit too,

Crow opened in Delaware 7/1.

I have some duck blind maintenance to do along with a long list of little chores, so I'm taking the HE down with me this Saturday to my club in Smyrna.

I'm planning on using my flocked crow decoys and an owl to see if I can't get a little shooting in before I have to leave.

Should be a lot of fun.

Well, I did get down to my hunting grounds but what was started out as maintenance turned into a total new build which left little to no time for crow hunting. I've been fortunate to have hunted this place as a guest for a few years and became a dues paying member just last year so I was looking forward to volunteering on a work gang and spending time there.

The farmhouse which is used as the clubhouse dates to 1840. We have nearly 500 acres planted in hay, soybeans, feed corn and sunflowers.

The corn is already 6 feet high and the sunflowers (about 5 acres worth in a long rectangular layout) were starting to pop open. This place is a dove killing field.

The property is bordered on two sides by the main channel of a tidal estuary that undulates in lazy S pattern for a few miles before it empties into the Delaware Bay. We have a number of goose pits in the fields and duck blinds all along the estuary border. We lost a blind to erosion so rather than do the maintenance on the one we tackled the bigger project. We will need to work on the camouflage some other time.

Bringing the HE to my club for the first time took on a lot of significance and bordered on a being downright spiritual experience. To the best of my knowledge, the gun was in a closet for the better part of the last 50 years. As I uncased it in the decoy room and I felt like the spirit of some old duck hunter nodded his approval knowing that at last his beloved Fox was going to witness numerous sunrises and hear the pleading cacophony of calls in anticipation of days in the blinds and pits of its new owner. (I hope)
