I looked through the catalog this afternoon, my brain didn’t fully register just how many NID Magnum 10’s are going to be sold quite yet

Like you Dave, I noticed the first 5, thinking that was all, then there was 8 more oh the amount of geese one could demolish with those big guns, it’s a shame that the limit is now only 1 per day, might as well go turkey hunting. I heard some swans pass overhead last night, now I could use one of those big guns for that

When I had my goose lease at Bucktown, MD, one trip with my Model 12 Heavy Duck was all it took to make me realize a skeet gun was just right. They were either in over the decoys gear down and locked or passing by so high they were out of Magnum-10 range.

That scenario is good reason to have one barrel "half choked" (Modified) on any Special Long Range waterfowler, i.e., Super-Fox, LC Smith Long Range, Ithaca Super 10 ….. as recommended by many of the period authorities like Askins, Curtis, Crossman, Sheldon, et al. Furthermore, firing a period 2-3/4" 12-gauge shell in a 3-inch chamber would typically result in a lesser pattern efficiency (percentage) than expected from the choke in either barrel. Even less, respectively, with a period 2-5/8" shell. Good concept when birds were decoying well. frank

This is only a sampling of the Ithaca tens that the collector amassed over the years. The sale in southern Virginia last year offered many more, graded and otherwise. They have to be somewhere.

Thanks to Frank for bringing up the subject. I have never owned one of the Ithaca tens but I know folks that used them effectively on geese.

Alot of these are coming out of Charlie Hunter's collection. Some neat stuff for sure. I think some of it was on GI for a little while

I was discussing the number of Grade 7 NID’s produced with a friend the other evening.

Walt in his book had it down as being approximately 22 Grade 7 NID’s in all gauges, I believe that Keith Houtling may have helped Walt put these numbers together and of course, none of these numbers are concrete numbers, since you never say never.

There seems to have been a fair amount of Grade 7 NID’s have came to the surface recently, so we were really wondering if there may be more than 22? I was thinking of writing down the serial numbers of the different 7’s we’ve seen recently and in the future, just to see what comes to light.

I’m thinking you probably have this all covered already??

Those numbers come from a compilation of high grade NIDs, smallbores and magnum-frame NIDs done by someone at Ithaca in the 1960s and published in a Gun Digest.

First blood for the Ithaca Super Ten. Shot her Thursday morning and together we got a limit, including a nice double with a right and a left.
