Unfired 20 gauge A-grade

Benchmark gun. A real beauty. I consider myself lucky to have an XE 20 and an SP 20 in the same condition with the breech stripes.

That certainly is a benchmark gun. Over the years I've seen a few "New in the Box" guns but they were late Savage era guns. Finding a gun, and especially a 20-gauge, of this vintage in such condition is really remarkable.

Could you tell us which style snap-on/-off forearm it has? The J.C. Kremer & A.H. Fox Patent No. 1,029,374 fastening --

or the F.T. Russell Patent No. 1,029,229 style fastening --

Researcher, both this gun s/n 200563 and my other early 20 A which is s/n 200371 (has the second gen gough engraving and early snap on forend as well) have the F.T. Russell style fastening system. I really appreciate all the comments gents.

Would you mind posting the stock dimensions? I'd like to see how they compare to my A 20 which is around 200 numbers earlier than yours. Thanks!

The stock dimensions for both guns are exactly the same as follows:
1 1/2 DAC
2 7/8 DAH
No cast
14 1/8-14 1/4 LOP

PS. 200371 has 26” barrels and I just dropped the original stock and forend off with my guy to be duplicated in a stick of California english that closely resembles the original in both grain flow and figure. It will be checkered the same as the original and numbered to the gun. I will be doing the inletting, fit/finish, and someone else will be checkering it. I will do a write-up on it as I progress starting when I receive the freshly “turned” wood back. Why you may ask? It had a hairline crack at the tang (ever so common on these) that appeared to be opening up and I couldn’t dare let that stock bust before duplicating it. Only mods to the gun will be the addition of a tastefully engraved forend escutcheon to add strength and perhaps opening up the right barrel to IC.

Hi Matt, if I owned your 20 gauge, I would use it as it was made for. I would take it hunting.

I build my customs and restock shooter grade guns (16&20) to hunt with. I hunt with all of my guns...all of my guns except this one.

Hi Matt, I think an A.H. Fox A grade is a "shooter" grade.

PS. That would be a safe queen for me in that condition. I've got a ton of shooter Foxes.
