Hello James, fyi my webname is Silvers, not Slivers. There is a Sliver who posts on one other SxS site and we are different web characters.
I'll be happy to oblige with a close up of the measuring head, but it's too dark now and I'm headed out to a clays course first thing tomorrow. You'll see them late tomorrow. The gauge you referenced is the one I have. It's shown in better detail in Galazan's hard catalog. I think the $125.00 gauge is the same one eightbore has and he says it works well. That's good enough for me. The one I had previously was made by a different company. Maybe I had a bad one of those but I had some extra scratch from a stock market deal and decided to get the one I talked about here. Silvers

JR, I like it when a gunmaker answers questions with "What do you mean where do I buy them? I make them." Your sights, barrel band with ramp, and swivel bases are wonderful. I know there is store bought stuff beyond New England Custom Gun for those that do not make everything. My custom rifle collection does not vary much from John Oberlies, who made everything by hand even if he could buy it. It's nice to know that some modern makers subscribe to the same book. Good luck in the Guild. Bill Murphy

James, here are the pics of my Galazan bore gauge. Silvers
Front end of gauge along with bore standards. The Fox I shot today is in the background; serial no. is blacked out on trigger guard - photo bucket has that feature now.
Measurement head. Tapered inner plug adjusts to expand spring steel fingers.
Dial indicator shown in relaxed position (not set up to any bore standard).

Great pics. Thanks. Looks like my small hole gauges only much longer. How's the dial indicator attach and indicate the tapered plug?

A brace on the adjustment rod bears against the stem of the indicator.

Interesting concept to set up the standard rings at a nominal bore diameter that may or may not be the size of the bore being measured. I prefer the .700 and .600 standards that Tony uses on his cheaper micrometers. The micrometer face can then be a "direct readout" when set at zero. Of course, the pictured gauge can also be a "direct readout" gauge if the micrometer face is set up at the same setting as the standard, in other words, set at .029 when the gauge standard is .729 (12 gauge). I see many users of these gauges adding and subtracting measurements when they can just read the measurement off the dial. Silvers is correct about the balls being a bit sticky. Mine started to stick a bit after ten or fifteen years of hard use. I suspect that a little, very little, lubrication will help to eliminate the sticking. I haven't done that yet, but now that I've been reminded...
