Re: Spring DGJ Article by Silvers -Ithaca Super 10's
I read the article -- a very nice job, and long overdue to see new reliable info on the Super 10s. I have one and I can tell you that it kills turkeys at the longest ranges I have ever observed. Mine is too tightly choked to shoot ducks over decoys, but it will get a chance at geese again this fall.
I'm anxious to read the rest of the article. I keep hoping to find an HE I can afford to see how it handles compared to the Ithaca. I can tell you that my arms are longer after carrying it in the fall turkey woods of North Missouri.
Again, nice job on the article.

The pony express rider made it to SE Idaho today with the DGJ. He left here looking for a cold one. We will see if we can make bail in the morning and send him towards researcher. I really enjoyed the article on the Ithica. As Frank knows there are people in this part of the world that love those guns. I am looking forward to part two. John

Spring issue of DGJ made it to Sticks, GA today. Nice job, Frank. Well written and good pics. Great info on the old long range ammo too, especially the relatively unknown stuff about Robin Hood. I read it first, when I sat down tonight, but it ended too soon! Now, I've got to wait three more months for the rest!

Re: Spring DGJ Article by Silvers -Ithaca Super 10's
There is a good bit of confusion in the period literature about the powder in the early Super-X shotshells. The A.H. Fox Gun Co. Super-Fox brochure discusses DuPont DeLuxe and DuPont Number 93.
The 1922 Western Cartridge Co. catalogue sort of suggests they made their own progressive burning powder --
"Guided by the experience obtained in manufacturing propellant powders at our smokeless powder factory during the war, we successfully developed and applied progressive burning powder to shot shell ammunition for the first time in the history of the industry, resulting in offering to the public the Super-X load."
Yet the 1922 Western Cartridge Co. Super-X Shot Shell booklet authored by Capt. Chas. Askins talks about DuPont 93. A few years later versions of the Western Super-X Shot Shell booklet have the references to DuPont 93 removed.
