I know not where the one from Albrights went. Mine weighs a half ounce over nine pounds. There are no stampings that identify them a Fox-Sterlingworth Wildfowls as far as I know.

Dave, thanks for the reply. One last question-were any of the Wildfowls over bored? John

Not that I've measured. The bores of mine are .728" in both tubes, with .039" choke in both tubes. The only Savage-era Super-Fox I've measured that I recall was one Lou had at the old CSMC plant and its bores were .731".

My Savage Super Fox bores measure .7385. The barrels are choked 48/49. The gun was shipped on 10/25/31. It is my understanding that Burt Becker was still associated with the company. I have no documentation that he worked on my gun. Perhaps all of the Wildfowls made had standard bores? They seems to be fewer Wildfowls than twenty gauge Supers. Dave's is certainly one of the best. Thanks for the information.

In follow-up to John's post ..... we have a limited "sample size" with the SW Wildfowls but I believe that Savage supplied these heavy Special Alloy 0-frame barrels with nominal .729" bore/typical choking on SW Wildfowls, and also with ~.738" overbore and significantly heavier choking for Super-Foxes. I know of a 1923 Super-Fox that has a #2 marked 32-inch barrel fitted by Savage. Apparently the gent wanted a somewhat lighter barrel, similar story to the two barrel Alaskan HE I wrote about separately. The Savage barrel is stamped Special Alloy, is numbered to the frame, has the Savage/oval proof mark, and has HE style engraving at the back ends of the breeches (unlike the SW Wildfowls). Bores are .738/.739" and choking is 47 and 48 points. Weight 4-11. Sorry I don't have a pic and the gun isn't here to take any ..... just working from my tech notes. Silvers

I was going through some of my Fox paper getting ready for the VC and I found a lttle handwritten note from Roe Clark in which he stated he believed there were about 35 Fox-Sterlingworth Wildfowls produced. That would track with what I've observed and recorded -- thirty in the 1341xx batch and five in the 3528x batch.

There were about 60 twenty gauge supers. This makes the Wildfowl a pretty rare bird indeed!
