I'm betting with the great "CRASH" only 7 weeks later, this gun never sold and was returned to Philly, whereupon it was shipped to Sears in mid-November. Not a whole lot of free cash flow left in the NYC vicinity after that little "correction"!!! Just thinking out loud here.-----TOOL

When Remington took over Parker Brothers, there was a flurry of guns returned from dealers and salesmen who had guns on consignment and other methods of "layaway" that did not result in the sale of guns. The most famous was an A-1 Special 28 gauge #191049 as I recall. It went through the hands of many dealers and salesmen before Remington got it back. I'm sure Fox and Savage went through the same situation.

Number 400370 had originally been "Consigned" by Fox. It was not unusual for American gun companies to consign firearms at A&F that would otherwise sit in a warehouse. The disposition of 400370 was to "A.H. Fox Gun Co." along with four other Foxes over a period of about 2 months. The disposition date was 11-6-29. Interestingly, a note in the ledger says "Shpd For Fox Gun Co.", not shipped TO Fox Gun Co. I don't know if this means that the gun was shipped back to Fox or shipped to another deealer at the request of Fox. The cost of the ME to A&F was $260 (YPE.XE). There was no retail price since the gun was not sold.

Thanks to Uncletom and Bob Beach. I have a gun that passed through A&F twice. Bob gave me wealth of information about the guns owners. He provides a great service. Uncletom is one of the main reasons I am involved with these guns. John

Craig, this is not serious money. The last time the gun was sold it was way, no, WAY higher than the present bids. I don't think we are even close. I guess I confused the auction description of the other M Grade with the one being offered now. I guess we don't have recent sales history on 400,370. However, we do have $31,000 history on one M Grade, maybe in better times.

Absolutely right Steve. Heck, I'm not a player for the gun and I feel that way.
