Loggy, I'm sure Tony would have offered me one of his FE 20's when he borrowed the gauge but that was before he got into the Fox Manufacturing Business.

So he gave me a couple of the finished one's he made instead.

Those plug-type choke gauges you stick in the end of the barrel only tells you the size of the hole in the end of the barrel. That makes them really only useful as a decoy anchor. Only a bore mic that measures the bore diameter and the choke length and constriction gives any useful information. Same thing with those chamber gauges, they only give a true reading in a perfect to spec chamber. If the chamber is a couple of thousandths undersize they will show way short. If the chamber is a bit oversize the gauge will go into the forcing cone and give a falsely long measurement. One can usually, with a bit of practice, get a better chamber measurement using a machinist scale and holding the barrels up to the light to get a shadow on the break from chamber to forcing cone.

From their first appearance through 1929, the Sterlingworth Brush (26-inch barrels) were catalogued as being bored cylinder right and modified left. From the 1919 catalogue --





Of course the option of any other boring was offered at no extra cost.

I have owned 8 or 10 26" smallbore brush guns and every one has had modified and full chokes.Some were early guns through late Utica guns. Bobby
