"The Family Honor" is IMHO Nash Buckingham's finest story after "De Shootinest Gent'man". A few years ago I did an X/HE Special as a homage to NB, Harold Money and the inimitable, Ho'ace Miller. (see the Custom Fox section on this site for photos). I have always admired the Whitworth barreled D/HE Specials ordered by Henry Bartholomew for himself and NB as displayed in Tom Kidd's article "An English Alliance" in DGJ. I have the priviledge of owning Becker #4 which has the original triggerguard recycled by Becker from Nash's D/HE 33050 shown in the article (the rest of the Becker restocked 33050 lives about 5 miles up the road from me). Geoffroy Gournet (who engraved my X/HE) and I have often spoken of engraving an HE ala the D style of 33050 which I now intend to do in honor of NB, Marse Henry , Pat and Beck. A 32" #1 barreled early AE would make a more accurate basis for such a project but I am fond of the the big frame HE guns and frankly, they are a bit easier to find and handle modern 3'" loads without complaint. Altering a rare original #1 barreled HE, like my friend Russ' HE owned by Henry Bartholmew himself sould I ever find one would, of course, be out of the question.
Speaking of Becker #4, I had it out for a bit of exercise 2 weeks ago at my friend's farm near Princeton, NJ where we had an 800 pheasant shoot for 18 guns. Its performance on a very windy day would have made Burt proud.
Destry, congrats on the Super. She looks like a nice one. Yes, I sure hope you join up; once you do you'll find a ton of great posts on our Members Forum.
One other suggestion besides joining AHFCA. You need to come to the HH shoot in the Spring and participate in the Bo Whoop Trophy shoot. You will meet many great Fox guys and have an opportunity to examine more Super Foxes in one place than you ever imagined. Craig
No not might do that, you MUST come. The HH event is the best shooting event of them all and I have been to most of them. We would welcome a fellow SF shooter and we love to talk duck hunting. You will have a ball, meet some great people and shoot your big gun. Plan on it!!
