Then he bought the Parker A1 Special from Remington rep Cliff Baldwin at the New York Sportsman Show after the New York premier of Gone With the Wind.

What Parker is Mr. Gable holding in this strange pic with Jimmy Robinson?
The book annotation says 1938 but written on the photo is 'Xmas--1940"?!?
The story I've always heard is that Clark Gable's A1 Special went to Gary Cooper and from Gary Cooper to Roy Rogers. Where it has gone since then I haven't heard. If it became available in California, the names John Millius and Robert Petersen come to mind.
A couple of the 1940s pictures of Coop in High on the Wild with Hemmingway show him holding a high-grade Parker with a beavertail.
