I am in the process of having a new stock and forend made for my 1922 vintage 12 gauge DE grade. I would like accurate dimensions and possibly photos of a splinter forend from this period. Craig Libhart is doing the work and we are in need of this information. I would appreciate any and all contributions. Thank you.

HH,

Here's a picture of a fore end for a late style engraving DE 12 gauge with SN 2598X that is about a 1922 vintage Fox. I do not have any dimensions to offer. The gun is buried but if you end up needing the dimensions for this gun, I can dig it out for you in the next day or two and get them.

Here are additional pics of the forearm from #27247 a 1922 vintage DE
that has seen some use!
The forearm measures 10-1/32" from the end of the cocking lever key to the tip of the ebony insert.
The wood measures 1 3/4"across where it meets the metal. keep in mind that this is a lightweight gun with #4 bbls.
This forearm may be narrower and "taper" faster. I also included a pic of the grip checkering in case you need that.

I also notice a slight difference in the checkering between Jolly Bill's forend and this one. Notice that on JB's forend the checkering almost meets ahead of the Deeley latch.

What are the existing specs on your DE? Paul

Paul,
Thank you for taking the time to post the photos and dimensions. This information will be very helpful to me. It is always enjoyable to see a good-looking fox. Here are some of the specs on my gun: S/N 2467X
Barrels--30", choked full & full probably 3 weight
Weight--7 lb 8 oz
Full capped pistol grip stock
Gun was shipped from Philadelphia plant on Aug 16, 1922 the original consignee is listed to be New Mexico Lumber Co.
The gun has been restocked some where along the line, and a Fox beavertail put on. I look forward to Craig Libhart putting the gun back to original shape. Thanks again,
John

HH,

I managed to gain access to my DE 12 gauge SN 2598X as pictured above for more details.

Just about the same as Foxist measured on his DE 12: 10 1/8" from the end of the cocking lever key to the tip of the ebony insert. It measures 1 3/4" across the metal like Foxists. On the under side of the fore end, the wood measures 9 1/2" from where it starts at the FE iron to the tip.

No barrel weight markings.

Good luck with your project.
