PA grouse opener
It was a good start to the PA grouse season. It was colder then normal for this time of year and we actually had a few snow showers. I don't remember every having snow on opening day. We started out in some unfamiliar cuts. We didn't move many birds, but Lilah had a few nice points and I was able to connect on the only shot I got. I thought, I hit the grouse solid and expected Lilah to find it where it fell. She quickly determined it wasn't there and went into tracking mode. She did an awesome job tracking it down. She found it 40 yards away under a log. It felt good to hit the 1st grouse of the season with the Fox 20 guage. We finished the day in a familiar cut, but only moved one bird.

That’s awesome. I’m so jealous. I’m laid up with recuperating from arm surgery after a nasty staff infection knocked me on my butt.
Fingers crossed that I’ll be back out there in a few weeks.

Grouse Fan, those are some LOOOOOOONG barrels on that 20 ga.! Please tell us the measurement and how they handle in the grouse woods. BTW, great little dog and nice photo launching us into the fall colors of our favorite haunts! Thanks, Kevin

They are 28 inches. I think the angle of the photo makes them look longer. They give the gun the perfect amount of balance. 28 inch barrels are the perfect length for the thick grouse woods here in PA. It's a sweet handling gun.

Thanks Grouse Fan for posting. As I recall you’re in northwestern PA? I wasn’t able to hunt yesterday due to my friend’s annual Fall party and bash, but plan to get out on Monday. That’s with my 20g/28” Fox “Vixen”. We’ll see how it goes here in Northeast PA in some familiar covers off old timber roads and RR beds. My knee has recovered well but still not quite 100%. Limited brush busting for now. frank

Re: PA grouse opener
That looks like a great time. Hopefully I'll be getting out before too long.
