Finally a Little Cool Weather

Post by Foxnut »

Like many of you we got a nice dip in the temps towards the end of the week and I was able to run Rosey without fear of heat exhaustion. I’m fortunate to live about 30 minutes from one of our SGA’s that has dog trial facilities/fields. We headed out to the training grounds about 8 yesterday morning when it was 52 degrees. Really pleasant morning and let her run about 30 minutes. Some of the field trial area is cut for hay with swaths of taller cover in between and a lot of edge cover. The pollinators also enjoy the variety of wild flowers/weeds that are late bloomers.

This was the third time this week we ran on this trial grounds. Been an enjoyable week for both Rosey and I!

No cool weather here. This coming week is predicted to be the hottest all summer.

Eceptionally nice here in MD, low 60's at night and mid 70's to low 80's during the day with low humidity. Just in time for the dove opener tomorrow. Usually shooting in the 90's with high humidity. Any one else shooting doves tomorrow?

Daryl, wish I were shooting doves but our state legislature did awaycw/our dove season a number of years ago after on a couple years. Makes me furious that they listened to the anti hunting crowd on the “bird of peace” and not shooting doves. I hope all that our fortunate to have a dove opener to enjoy the heck out of it!! I’ll be with ya’ll in spirit!!

On a plus side for our waterfowlers tomorrow is the opener for early goose and teal! Good luck and have fun!!

Well I read somewhere Brett that 50-70% of the dove population perishes whether they are hunted or not and that chick mortality can be upwards of 70%. They can renest on average 6 times. Shooting them does not affect the population but as Mr. Hillis can attest its the most fun you can have with a scattergun.
