Double Gun Journal
Re: Double Gun Journal
DGJ I&R arrived in NOVA land today. Interestingly, no prior routing info, notifications, or other in-route notations (per some earlier posters) were received along the way - it just showed up in the regular mail. Kevin

Re: Double Gun Journal
This afternoon I returned home from a week at my cottage and there was the DGJ waiting for me at my doorstep. Wow! This should keep me busy for a long time. Hats off to the Cote family for putting it together.
First thing I did was to scan the index (well, after mowing the lawn) and then immediately went to Phil Yearout’s article on 16’s. As a longtime fan of the 16, I can really relate to this article, and Phil is a great writer. Nice job Phil!
Funny thing… on page 111 there is a picture of President Grover Cleveland with a mess of ducks. Great picture! Then on page 237 we can see the same picture, but caption says President Benjamin Harrison (looks like Cleveland to me). Oh well, poop happens. I’m looking forward to reading these articles and dreaming of a bygone day when presidents could sit out in a marsh and shoot ducks with a beautiful SxS. My how times have changed.
Additional note: I just read both of Wayne C. Capooth’s articles regarding President Cleveland and President Harrison. Both presidents sure had a lot of fun duck hunting, and Mr. Capooth did a lot of research. Ya just gotta love the golden days of duck hunting.

Re: Double Gun Journal
Daryl, this may not be a "conclusion". I'm sure Dan has articles in the hopper for another 400 plus page hardback. Not as much hassle as a monthly publication, and even more interesting. I also kind of liked the previous format where the authors introduced themselves through an autobiographical article "with Parkers". There are many entries on the "In Appreciation" list who have not written or been written about. I, personally, would buy another Reader, without index.

Re: Double Gun Journal
Bill,
What I was referring to was the perceived angst among the subscibers that if they didn't get their DGJ thingy that the world would cease to rotate. Mr. Cote said it was on it's way. That should be good enough. But...I'm glad you all got it and are enjoying it. Now wasn't it worth the wait?

Re: Double Gun Journal
There were plenty of posts over the past two years on the long awaited Index and Reader but curiously I haven’t seen much here since folks received their copy about a month ago. So …… what is your feedback on its presentation and content? Any articles of particular interest to Foxers? frank

Re: Double Gun Journal
Frank, in response to your inquiry. I have the new index and reader, and it is impressive in size and the quality of the materials. The book is rather large, 450 some pages, but a fair amount of that is devoted to the indexing and cross referencing of the 18 years' worth of articles published in the DGJ since the last Index & Reader. I would guess upwards of 120 to 140 pages or so. At any rate, i have managed to read about the first 7 or 8 articles and they are top notch. Looking through the entire book, I did not see any articles that pertained to Fox's directly. There are a couple of Parker and at least one Lefever articles. The book seems to cover a wide breath of topics related to the double gun and everyone should be able to find something to their taste. In my opinion, it is a worthwhile read for the double gun crowd and a fitting send off for the enterprise.
