Handicapped Sub-Gauge at Rock Mountain

Post by Mike of the Mountain »

Greetings! If you're in the area for Ernie's shoot, stick around for Sunday. Sunday, June 8, we host our annual Spring Handicapped Sub-Gauge event. Shooting begins at 9:00, last squad out for the shoot has to be on the course by 1:00. 100 target shoot using our handicap system. Cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. There is a custom blue stone trophy for the HOA shooter. There will be Lewis classes to play too. If you're not familiar with our system, a 12g O/U or semi gets no birds. A 16g gets 3, a 20 gets 5, a 28 gets 10 and a .410 gets 15. A SxS gets 5, a hammer gun gets 5 and a pump gets 5. Handicaps are cumulative. A 20g SxS hammer gets 15. A .410 pump gets 20. A 12g SxS gets 5. Got it?

This is one of my favorite events of the year; actually Mountain Mike offers it as here in June on the day after the Northeast SxS at Hausmann's and also in the fall. The June event always brings in more SxS guns with gents staying over for an extra morning of shooting on Rock Mountain's excellent 100 bird course. Most of the modern o/u and semi-auto shooters will use 20 or 28g guns for the extra 5 and 10 bird boost on the score and of course SxS shooters get an additional 5 hammerless or 10 hammer gun. I keep asking Mike if I can get 10 birds with an Ansley GAH flashback Model 97 pump gun in 12g but so far he's held firm that hammer gun refers to a double and not a pump gun. Hope to see many of the Hausmann's shooters at the Rock on next Sunday. frank
