AH Fox receiver bluing
AH Fox receiver bluing
Is the receiver on a 1922 fox supposed to be blued or is it supposed to be to be cased hardened? I just bought one that I think has reblued barrels and receivers. The seller thinks it’s original but it looks too good to be original. I have another fox and the receiver looks case hardened on it. ![Image]()

A Sterlingworth receiver should be case colored. Can't tell for sure but it appears your gun was hot blued. If so check the barrels thoroughly or better yet have a competent gun smith check them. Hot bluing can cause the solder to come loose on the barrels/ribs and lead to problems down the road if not already there. Good luck and keep us posted.

Certainly looks hot blued to me. Can't call it original.
Owning a Fox is not a spectator sport.

Got the gun and had my gunsmith check it out he said it is a good tight gun and in his opinion the wood hasn’t been altered and it has been reblued and who ever did it did a good job. Seems to me to be a nice gun happy to add to my collectionFoxnut wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 8:57 pm A Sterlingworth receiver should be case colored. E Dixon,
Congrats on the gun! Glad it checked out w/your gunsmith. Look forward seeing some pics of that gun at the gun club or out in the field. Keep us posted. Brett
