Showed up on Shotgunworld today. Was this a commercially available after-market item or some tinkerer's one off?

First for me.

It is a later production gun of course, but certainly couldn't be factory since the screws are out of time! Lol

Let us know what you turn up!

Nope, never seen one. Is it a rifle?

Remington's first 20-gauge pump shotgun. Introduced 1920 and made into the 1930s. Made for 2 3/4-inch shells and lit a fire under Winchester to improve their 20-gauge Model 12. John M. Browning design and was the forerunner to the Ithaca Model 37.

Dave,

Was the button on the top to release and open the action possibly??

It clearly has the safety above the trigger.

Maybe a mechanical link to the SAFETY behind the trigger to operate it from the upper position. For left hand shooters?

The slide on top operates the cross-bolt safety behind the trigger.

These guns are a bit hard to find. They are silky smooth. Years ago I saw one that was engraved by Ken Hurst I believe. It was amazing.

I put Ken onto the Model 17 he engraved when I saw it at a local pawn shop. My favorite was the one Remington engraver Carl Ennis did for his wife which was pictured in The Remington Society Journal. This one Marshfellow showed us isn't too shabby --
