31/2 Ithaca nid

I know it’s not a fox but wanted to pick yall brain can you use modern shells in a 31/2 nid first year made 1932 or 38 don’t remember or what should I use

No steel shot. Lead loads or the softer non-toxics such as bismuth. The 10-gauge 3 1/2-inch Magnum loads at the time the NID Magnum-10 was made were 2-ounce.

Serial number over #500,000 is factory 3 1/2". Lower numbers would be a 2 7/8" gun rechambered to 3 1/2".

Bill hit it on the head. I've seen and measured/passed on buying otherwise good Ithaca NID Super 10’s that were redone by 'smiths to 3-1/2" chambers. As many here know the Super 10 NID was designed for 2-7/8" shells with a max 1-5/8 ounce payload. And even if checked for wall thickness over the front end of the chambers, such rechambered Supers are much too light for the recoil of factory 3-1/2" shells and furthermore the stock heading wasn't designed for that heavy recoil.

In net, NID serial number starts with number 5 = Ithaca Magnum 10-gauge or one of the very few 3-inch 12 gauge guns; and if Serial number starts with number 4 = Super 10 NID. frank

Just put my minty Mag Ten up for auction. I may regret that, but it's gone. A friend bought it, and will price it for more than I will pay. Oh, well.
