This Fox was seeing green!

Post by Wild Wings »

With our 2024 waterfowl season quickly coming to an end up here due to freezing temperatures, -3C this morning I set off to the lake blind in hopes of one more limit of Greenheads before the lake freezes over.

There was still quite a few birds around this morning and I had fun decoying many Gadwall's, Wigeon and Green Winged Teal while I waited for those big late season northern Mallards to decoy. Our limit is eight ducks per day up here but unfortunately I only had 6 decoy close enough for a shot but I connected on all of them! Close but no cigar but I'm not complaining one bit. It was a perfect morning for what could be my last duck hunt for this season.

This has been my first year hunting with a double and I've really enjoyed myself.

Wow! Beautiful ducks. You must be a virtuoso on that duck call.

On this day I turned the Lucky Duck on and didn't touch a call for the entire hunt! These birds have been hunted pretty hard by two outfitters and they tend to go away from any calling or larger decoy spreads. Even up here we can get pressured birds. Other days the call can be magic but not right now.

It's been a good year for me for sure. I've had a lot of help from my buddy Frank who has done more than his share of the leg work because I've been working nights. Good hunting partners should be treasured as much as our favourite firearms! I hope my good luck continues later this week when our firearms big game season starts. I've drawn a bull moose tag this year that I really want to fill.
