My hunting buddy Frank and I located a really nice feed field with several thousand Snow Geese and a bunch of Mallards using it while scouting last night and I didn't take us long to decide that we needed to use our doubles to hunt this barley field in the morning!
Frank brought his beautiful 1927 Ithaca NID 4E and I packed my trusty Fox Sterlingworth for this hunt.
The Snow Geese arrived on the scene first in one giant flock of two to three thousand birds and came straight to us but since we were there to hunt the Mallards we decided to let them pass and not shoot at them. As is often the case out here, those Snows pretty much pulled every other bird into them and away from us but we did have one nice flock of Mallards come in perfectly and with four quick shots three big Greenheads were laying belly up in the decoy spread.
That was it for the action this morning but we did get to enjoy watching all of those Snows twirl around the other end of our field and we were both quite happy to kick back and enjoy the show.

Wild Wings,
Great pics! That must be fun to watch that many snow geese descend onto a field. I grew up in NW OH and as a kid I can remember the mallards and Canada Geese flying off the Lake Erie marshes to feed in the cut crop stubble fields. On some evenings the sky was covered with huge flocks coming into feed!
What state are you hunting?
