Once upon a time I had a duck dog. Kelly was a 65 lb. chocolate lab with a great nose and tons of enthusiasm. Probably a little too much enthusiasm, hence the leash. Too bad I didn’t have the insight or wherewithal for thorough training. Still, she found a lot of ducks that I would have lost. Good girl Kelly

Re: Once upon a time….
My Gracie was like that. Gracie was a young Golden I got to replace Abby who was another Golden and a fantastic duck dog. Sadly, we lost our private lake we had hunted at when Gracie was 18 months old and not fully broke into things. I recall taking her Dove hunting the following year during Dove season. I tied her to my Dove Hunting stool and that worked fine until my buddy behind me shot a Dove and Gracie broke for the retrieve and well, one minute I'm looking for Doves in front of me and the next second I'm on the ground looking up at the sky and Gracie is running after that dead Dove and dragging the stool with her. Sadly per the norm we lost that Dove hunting place the following year. No Dove hunting nor Duck hunting since and I've moved on with the Pointing Dogs. PS. The Dove hunting was really good. Miss it even today. That's a 16 gauge Sterlingworth with 30" barrels in the picture.Jeff S wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:49 pm Once upon a time I had a duck dog.
