Nice little Michigan Grouse Gun

I thought I should share some pictures of a dandy little grouse gun. It’s passed through the hands of a couple of members and now it resides in Michigan. I figure it will be just right for long strolls through thickets.

This A grade can be presumed to be the 33rd graded 16 ga. to leave the Fox factory. The 26” barrels are choked IC and Mod, and it weighs a mere 5 lbs., 10 oz. It shot quite well at Rock Mountain, so I hope I get a chance at a grouse or woodcock next Fall.

Looks like a dandy little grouse gun! I think you will like it for the grouse woods! Rosey and I would be pleased to have you join us for an early October hunt this year. As for a “stroll” I don’t equate grouse/woodcock hunting and strolling together. I usually equate it with tripping, falling, twisting/winding through thick aspen cover!!!

Those early A style engraving 16's and 20's are not very common. I'm glad you got a nice one Steggy.

It’s choked Improved Cylinder and Modified. No name yet. Sometimes it takes a while for the right name to materialize. I’ve already used Cloe, Del, Iva, Queenie, Joan, JR, Saul and Sally.

Great gun Jeff. Hope you get to shoot it a lot. Nice mate to my favorite 20-gauge quail gun --

a 1913 vintage 20-gauge. My 20-gauge has 28-inch Krupp barrels and is a bit heavier at 6-pounds 3-ounces.

Very nice. My 16 was also shipped in 1913. Is that good ol’ Skitzo in the picture?

Yes, those were the first birds I shot over her back in 2005. I was starting in to hunt the woods along the Tucannon River and the first thing she did was run out into the adjacent stubble field and point one of the cows grazing there. I got over the fence and walked in her direction and up got Cock John from between Skitso and the cow!

I was the first owner of this gun. Bought it in Front Royal Va where it was mis marked as a Sterlingworth because it had the snap on Forearm and the early engraving. PS. Bought it about 15 years ago give or take. Was my first graded Fox and I killed the first Grouse I ever shot at it with in Maine. The late Great Gracie and I. She was a great dog. She was 10 months old in this picture..

Great memory Tom for you with Gracie.

I killed my first grouse with a Savage BSE Fox in 20 gauge. I went to Potter county in the 1980's with some buds and was the hot gun for the weekend with 3 grouse for the pot.

I have a picture somewhere....

Edit: Found it! Don't mean to hijack this thread. I used to shoot that gun pretty well. Traded it off years ago for what I can't remember.
