SP barrel onto A Grade Savage Fox

Post by Old Colonel »

Can SP barrels be fitted on to an A Grade Savage Fox?

I have an A Grade with 32 inch barrels and would like to add some shorter barrels.

I would imagine the SP-Grade barrels could be fitted to an A-Grade frame, but they are profiled differently along the bottom.

Lug will have to be changed out on the Sterly barrel to an A grade lug to use the Deely latch I believe. PS. I tried to fit a SP Barrel on a CE 20. It was a no go for the reasons stated above.

I have a Philly A grade 20 with snap-on forend; my Utica Sterly 20ga barrels pretty much buckled right up to it. But that was snap-on to snap-on, and I never went any farther with it than just trying it

Fitted for basic function, yes. Fitted for proper fit cosmetically, a lot of extra work. I have done it. It requires welding and file work to get everything as it should be on the bottom. Yes, a set of SW barrels would put you further along, except for the FE lug. The best would be to find a set of graded barrels to start with.
