The Ansley Cup

Post by quail4jake »

Hi fellow Foxers,
Daryl will be following me with details...Announcing a new competition: "The Ansley Cup", not really a new event but an aggregate of the three current events at Hausmann's. This is just hatched so I look forward to your thoughts. I was unable to post the word document as an attachment so I copied and pasted the text... Thanks! RB

“The Ansley Cup”
The finest accolade in the world!
This is an aggregate score competition to recognize the most versatile A.H.Fox shooter with “The Ansley Cup”!
- Competition is open to all shooters. You do not have to be a member of The A.H.Fox Collectors Association.
- Entrance fee is $20 and there is a singular purse of $100 for the competitor with the highest aggregate score.
- Competitors must fire at least once in the “Bo Woop”, “W.C.Letterman” and “Baby Woop” events using one or more A.H.Fox guns of any gauge and type. There is no limit to the number of times a competitor may fire in any one of the events and all scores count, taking the highest in each event to count toward the competitor’s aggregate score.
- Rules specified in the individual events are in force except that any A.H.Fox gun can be used and practice scores as well as registered target scores count toward the aggregate score.
- In the event of tied aggregate scores a runoff shall take place. The targets shall be at the discretion of the scorers. Top score of a run of 5 targets shall be proclaimed the victor.

We have added a last minute event that really is concurrent with the BoWhoop, W.C. Letterman and BabyWhoop events. Hope to see many of you using those Foxes for what they were so expertly designed for.

Remember: Owning a fox is not a spectator sport.

Many thanks to Russ Burkett for his idea in formulating this event.

PLEASE NOTE A CLARIFICATION ON THE ANSLEY CUP RULES:

There will NOT be a $20 fee to be eligible for the cup. You have to shoot both the BoWhoop and the W.C. Letterman for score and not for practice and all events must be shot low gun. The aggregate scores for all three events will determine the cup winner.

I will change the poster to reflect that. Thanks! By the way I interpret the rule a competitor would have to own a Fox SBT to win the Ansley Cup. Does that ring true?

Daryl and Russ, a great idea reminiscent of our Ansley H Fox Championship as in years past. Thanks for the clarification on the shooting for score. Am I correct that shooting for all three events must be done with an "AHF shotgun" as defined in the B-W rules? Hence that means that those going out for this event must own (or at least shoot) Fox guns suitable for: the B-W presentations, a smallbore for the Baby Whoop, and a Fox SBT gun for the WCL Cup?

Not that many own a Fox SBT with only ~450 guns made. As I recall the most we ever had at the WCL was about 8 Fox SBT's.

JOKE: My George Emmons' J-Grade SBT is available for rent to members. Only $25.00 per round of 10. As my friend Mountain Mike might comment: Bwaaaahahaha

Yes Frank, you mentioned the A.H. Fox championship recently which got me to thinking and thanks to Russ we put it together at the 11th hour. We really are trying to promote the Fox gun as we did back then. Thanks for reminding us.

RE: The shortage of SBT guns. How else would we declare the winner of the Ansley Cup if the participants didn't shoot a Fox gun in all three events? If someone wants to shoot a Fox gun we will do our best to get them one to shoot. I'll have a couple of 12's and a couple of 20's for anyone to use and I'm sure we can come with some SBT's.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

Greatly appreciate the opportunity to rent the George Emmonds J legend, can we negotiate a rent-to-own contract? :D

Thanks for the great effort there Daryl & Russ,

This sounds like great fun, but I'm not sure where to come up with a Fox SBT on short notice

I once new a guy from Grand Rapids, wonder if I can still find his number :(

Let me repeat.... YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OWN A FOX GUN TO WIN! I won a place in the A.H. Fox championship back when it was held at Pintail Point shooting a borrowed A grade 12. I joined the AHFCA later that day. If you want to shoot a Fox gun just ask. I'm sure we can find you one to compete with.

The burning question is "Why don't you own a Fox"???

My joke was only intended to convey the comparative scarcity of Fox SBT guns at past WCL Cup events, as compared with Ithaca and Parker SBT's.

Sorry but I've learned from shooting past competitions that it's often counterproductive for me to loan the gun I'm shooting to someone doing the same event. Too easy for his/her technique, break points, etc to get into my head (subconscious). Hence my Emmons' SBT will not be available on loan.

I am in the market for a Fox SBT however currently I will not qualify for the Ansley Cup without one. That's OK for me but we are limited to a three Fox event which is likely tom see few qualifying competitors. We could consider allowing Fox double in the Letterman event but keep the Letterman title to Fox SBTs only, just a thought...

Just my opinion Russ on using double-guns (loaded with a single shell) for the Letterman. We've resisted that in the past for score shooting, but I suppose that could be done for the newly coined Ansley Cup event but I think that will get confusing to administer and might be a sore point when the purses are paid out only to those who fielded vintage SBT's no matter who the maker. frank

For now Russ, I think it's best to keep the WCL a SBT event.

OK, as always the devil is in the details. We have three really successful events that continue to grow however a few competitors with a sour taste for how things turn out could damage our reputation. Maybe this isn't ready for prime time, would anyone object to discussions about it at Hausmann's and possibly a debut next year once the nuances can be addressed?

Russ, you can borrow mine, but I should warn you that I’ve already made plans for the $100 purse.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.
