Well it looks like I finally have a Fox

I picked this up this week Sterlingworth 16ga 28" barrels measured F/F on the chokes 355XXX serial # range which as far as I can tell should put it at around 1920. Over the years I have become a 16ga fanatic and I really love these guns that carry like a 20 but hit like a 12

No expert here but the wood appears original along with the butt plate and is in beautiful condition, but I am almost positive it was redone the checkering appears to be re-pointed and who ever did it did a nice job too :D barrels are tight and ring true. The left bore is bright and the right one is bright except for one small dark spot behind the choke no serious pitting. Only down side it has a small ping about mid way in the right barrel which you can feel and not see till you sight down the side barrel and the light hits it just right and it does not seem to bad enough to worry about. While no expert the barrels appear to still have the original finish and are very nice.

Reciever has no real issues and is clean. Engraving is still nice other than not much case color left maybe 15% on the outside but there is case color around the inside barrel flats and breech. Triggers are still crisp and the lever comes down dead center. All the numbers match up (Forearm Reciever and barrels) Fore arm fits tight and is in excellent condition.

The strong point on this one appears to be the wood it's just beautiful and I always was a sucker for good wood.

I broke her in yesterday with my Brittany, Sophie, on some pheasants and all mechaincal functions are perfect. Only thing I might do is open the choke on the right barrel as I hunt over a pointing dogs and had to remind myself to let those birds get out a little bit yesterday 8)

One question for the more educated on here. Since the stock has been refinished I don't think this gun fits any real collector class and falls in the nice shooter catagory. I may want somebody to re-case color her any suggestions on who I might use and possibly open up the chokes?

I'm not a big recase coloring guy unless you were going the full restoration route and that would probably require the engraving to recut as well. The only thing I would do is open up the one barrel. I spent a few years in Japan and the Japanese sxs's back then (25 years ago) were normally choked IC and Full. Not a bad combination and I would think with your pointing dogs that might be the ticket. Those 16's are sweet. I've got three and they are my favorite go to gun for just about everything short of turkeys and ducks.
