Early A grade barrel issue. Need advice please

Post by SWUtahSxS »

Hello everyone, new guy here. I have a question for the experts. I just acquired an early AH Fox "A" grade SxS made in 1910. It was from an online auction. This Fox is a 12 ga. with 28 inch barrels. The stock is in decent shape, no cracks or
missing chips. The barrel rib is firmly attached, and the lock up is tight to face. The ejectors work properly, as well as the safety and trigger and hammer pins. The serial # is 107XX. It's a real nice looking vintage shotgun.

Upon inspecting the gun, I found an undisclosed repaired bulge on the right barrel about 6 1/2 inches up from the muzzle. There is a one inch by a quarter inch area on the outside of the barrel that has the repair. There are some 12 to 15
ball peen marks on the repair. On the inside of the barrel opposite the repair is a crescent mark covering half of the inside of the barrel. This mark is flush with the inside of the barrel. I tried to take pictures of it but my camera wouldn't
cooperate. Sorry.

I wanted to know how big of a problem this could be, as I got this shotgun as a shooter. I paid a hair over 5 Benjamins for it. I have attempted to upload some pictures of the shotgun including a picture of the repair on the outside of the
right barrel. I can return this gun for a refund if need be.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Agree, Agree, Agree with all of the follow-up posters~! Take your time and get the gun you want in the configuration you want it - they are out there! An eager young man at the Vintage Cup last weekend had 3 to choose from but each had compromising issues - some dimensional, some mechanical. He came to us at the Fox booth several times to ask advice and we all told him the same thing each time - get what you want the way you want it! They are not "rare" guns (except in 100% condition). Wisely, he kept his money in his pocket and went home empty handed. Kevin
