Winchester Model 21 Serial Numbers

Post by Researcher »

A good example of how far Model 21 serial numbers were out of order. There is a 16-gauge currently on GI with a serial number in the 7xxx range that letters to 1941. I have a 16-gauge in the the 15xxx range that letters being started in 1940 and finished up in 1941. I've also recorded a 16-gauge with a bit lower serial number than mine in the 15xxx range that letters to 1946.

Happy Birthday Dave. My M21 16-gauge has s/n 67xx and is a two barrel set. Both 28". Original barrel choked Skeet 1 & 2, and second barrel Improved-Mod and Full. Cody shows the Order Sheet is unavailable and that the second barrel order with some extra work was started on 12/26/44 and completed on 3/18/45. Interesting that Winchester was taking on work like this during the War. Maybe the original owner had an "in" with the Red W?
