serialxxx

Post by simcgunner »

I am at a loss as to why people put xxx in the last digits of serial numbers. Is there some sort of danger to knowing the whole serial? If the gun is stolen and they are concerned that the rightful owner may step up, It seems unethical to me.

You forgot to add and then post a pic of the frame, barrels, and forend to show how the numbers all match.

In the title and description folks will post the serial as 71xxx but then attach 57 pictures, one of which is the frame, forend, and barrel that clearly shows the full serial number is 71123.

Maybe it's like why folks post a credit card number in an email with added characters so malware search programs looking for certain sequences cant can't pick it out.

I've always been at a loss myself to understand why someone would not want the entire serial number revealed. I doubt it has anything to do with stolen firearms being reclaimed, but like I said, I've never been able to understand why complete serial numbers should be shrouded in such mystery. Some people are very private and I can completely understand the " it's none of your business" thought process....but then again if your that private why put it on a public forum? Anyway, to each his/her own I suppose.
