Mix matched Barrels
I’ve located a fox sterlingworth 12 gauge for sale, with a set of 2 barrels 26” & 30” the gun is probably 80 to 85%, serial # 93149. My concern is the 30” barrel is stamped AH Fox, the 26” barrel is stamped savage both are serial numbered the same?

Re: Mix matched Barrels
An original Philadelphia gun that was sent to Savage some time from 1930 onward for a second set of barrels. Not at all uncommon. If the barrel address on the Savage barrels is Utica, NY, 1930 to 1946; Chicopee Falls, Mass. 1947 to 1960; Westfield, Mass. 1961 onwards. No records of such work remain for repair work, so documentation is not possible. Post some good pictures and we can offer opinions.

Welcome to the Fox Forum.J. Chrisman wrote:Thanks for the info, what might that gun and set be worth?
For any kind of estimate on the value of your 2 barreled Sterlingworth, we'll need a detailed and accurate description of the gun (stock, barrels, etc.) and good close up, in focus pictures.
Otherwise, based on your above description, probably in the $750 to $1500 range. One person's opinion, of course.

Re: Mix matched Barrels
A comparison may be helpful. So we see an advert for an ordinary no frills '52 Chevy sedan and with the seller's estimate of about 80% condition, but no pictures and no specifics on the engine, tranny, drive train, upholstery, body, etc. Best offer sale. We know most sellers tend to overestimate the condition percentage. In net, there probably won't be much interest in that automobile but if so, who would respond with more than a pittance offer?

Thanks for the pictures.
First, your condition estimate: "the gun is probably 80 to 85%" is really on the high side. Based on your pictures, I would say closer to 10 - 15%.
The gun and the original 30 inch barrels look well used, the 26" Savage set, less so.
The tag that's on the gun has it at $750. If that's the price from a dealer, that's about what the gun is worth assuming the gun works as it should and there are no functional problems.
Just my opinion.

Re: Mix matched Barrels
Just based on the pics and proper functioning I'd say Bill is spot on regarding the $750. tag price, and contingent on the the barrel ribs being tight and all 4 bores not having been goofed with and having zero to very-very little pitting. Value would have been a little more just a few years ago but nowadays most are enamored with Fox small bores, kind of like the difference in attraction and heart rate, respectively, when a '52 Chevy sedan or a '55 Chevy coupe comes out of a barn and is up for sale.

Looks like a pretty decent pawn shop find. Is the OP located in southwestern PA?

Re: Mix matched Barrels
Gun is very tight, no to little pitting in 30” barrel, no pitting in 26” barrel, the forearm on the 30” barrel is not a matching serial number
