OT - Lefever can get the game

Post by Silvers »

Our PA grouse season is closed for the year but our few days of snowshoe rabbit season opened on the 26th. There's been a long time colony of snowshoes at one place in the mountains and I'll have one bounce out in front occasionally while grouse hunting. Yesterday I gave the Foxes a break and hunted with a favorite Syracuse Lefever G-Grade 12-gauge, 1912 gun with 26-inch steel barrels and ejectors. Long story short, I didn't see a hare while woods hunting for 3 hours but came back to the cabin with a good size ringneck while walking the edge of a field near where I parked. Have to keep with tradition - the shells are reloaded Federal papers with 1-1/8 ounce of 5's. Man, that burnt wax smell is another time travel kick. frank

and yes - there is a smell to those paper hulls nothing matches - I loaded them for doubles and grouse, back when we had grouse :(
