Picked up a circa 1910 A grade that I “assume” got “upgraded” a good while back . By whom etc that’s room for thought and questions !

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
Against my better judgement I bought this gun mainly because I liked the engraving and checkering . I’ve actually been slowly liquidating what Fox and Smith Guns I have or had then adding more uhm Parker’s . But this gun intrigued me without a doubt . After seeing the card and making a crude measure of drop in 100% sure this Guns been restocked . The top lever is left of center so I’ll have that addressed next week . Also hopefully replace the pad . Also while the stocks off I’ll see if the stock is capable of being shot some . If it is I’ll wait a couple months before sending to another friend to address the screw in the head and the finial inlay that’s missing . Not sure what I’ll use this thing for as I’m not really a water Fowler or turkey potter . But I can atleast shoot it at sporting some and possibly kill a deer with buckshot and or slugs .

I’m okay with having the wood strengthened and possibly refinished . I’m also okay with a reblue on the barrels . I’m just a little undecided how to clean up the rest of the metal parts without wearing the engraving anymore . And no I’d rather not have the parts re color cased .

I think he was saying that this gun was upgraded from an Original A grade 12 gauge sometime in the past. I could be wrong for sure. Since this is an old thread, one wonders what happened to the gun.67galaxie wrote:That's only an A grade?

Over the years, several guns that started life as A-/AE-Grades in inventory, got "practiced" on by William Gough. Serial number 2728 --

Neat gun Craig, even the way it is now.
It must have been a beauty back when the work was done on it.
By the way, what's the rest of the serial number if you don't mind sharing? 10??? looks like.
Thanks for showing us.

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
A guy came in the shop one day with the old beater I posted pictures of here . He was curious what it was worth . I told him what I thought it was worth if in good shape then I told him what I thought it was worth as it was . Then against my better judgement I gave him the amount after he agreed . According to him he was originally from LOuisianna and the gun was his grandfathers . After listening to him speak of this and that it became obvious that his family were not of the genteel element in the south . Thru discussion etc I’m kinda of the opinion some sport from most likely Chicago or done other city north of LA bought this gun originally then decided it needed to be engraved as well as most likely restocked . And as my theory goes I suspect said sport used the grandfather of the guy I bought it from as his duck guide and eventually gave him the gun . I have no way to prove that but stleast it sounds good .

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
I still have the gun . Had a pad put on and straightened the top lever and stopped until recently . Now it’s in the rack at the shop waiting to be tightened up and have the barrels reblued . After that’s done I plan on having Danny Patton refinish the wood . It’s my intention to move to the Philippines full time in the next 18 months and hopefully I can import a shotgun or three in my wife’s name , with this gun being one along with a Parker VH 2 barrel set and a Remington Model 32 . Think I’ve got less than $2500 in the trio so if they get lost in transit or importation the loss monetarily isn’t to bad .
