My Super Fox - pics added - warning pic heavy

Post by waterman »

Hey guys I was looking at my super fox #27826 the shotgun was shipped from the fox, Philadelphia factory on September 21, 1923. The original consignee is listed to be a William G. Hagen. No address or location was provided. It has 32" choked full and full a straight stock and a crushed silvers recall pad. Does any one know or have in Info on William G. Hagen.

Here's some pictures of my super fox!

Thanks for the pictures!! Very nice gun. It appears as if your letter calls out a half pistol grip, but the gun has a very nice original looking English grip stock? I wonder if it was sent back to have an English grip stock fitted or the factory record is wrong? Does the gun have the long trigger guard tang? Also, it is the earliest gun we have recorded that has the "Not guaranteed" roll stamp. Anyhow, I would be very proud if I owned your gun. Thanks for sharing. Craig

Craig yes the gun has a long straight grip trigger guard the gun dealer I got it from said they had fooled with a several guns and they were positive the letter was wrong on that. Thanks for the feed back I love to talk about fox guns.

A great piece of history. I would love to shoot a straight grip gun like that.
Thanks for showing the photos.

Here is an esoteric question. During what years did Fox clip the rear tips off the straight-grip checkering pattern as on this gun? My Philadelphia era straight-grip Fox guns are all 1918 and earlier and all go back to a point. I have two early Utica straight grips and they have the clipped point, then my 1936, 37, and 38 Utica straight grips have checkering patterns that extend back to a point.

With all these Super-Fox guns coming into the light, has anyone come up with the tag, as it "BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG"?

maybe we need to add a HE photo section. I would love to see more of the custom and higher graded HE guns in addtion to the other presently in service.

That is one fine looking HE!!! The straight stock looks Factory to me the card may be wrong or it may have been back to the factory early on and converted like fox-admin stated. I once saw an A grade 12 bore that did not have a grade stamp on the receiver. I have seen guns missing Fox proof stamps and patent dates quite frequently. Most likely a factory oversight. How does the gun's weight compare to the stated letter weight?
Dave I have a 1935 AE grade with the grip checkering coming to a point. I also have the 1927 XE which comes to a point but then maybe all XE checkering comes to a point on straight grips. I noticed that the 16 bore late philly vintage A grade that belongs to Pat Buccuzzi you posted pictures of under the A grade section has the "clipped off" checkering at the rear of the straight grip!
