AE DOVES

Post by J. A. Early »

Only eight but two doubles from 7-9 this morning. Missed a few easy shots but that is dove hunting.

Congratulations, and thanks for the very nice picture. Those of us who live in Michigan can only dream about shooting doves. :(

Someplace where corn is picked early, for sure.

On second thought, as clean as that ground is, and free of shucks, it may have been chopped for silage.

We have more corn and corn cut early for silage here in VA than any year in the past ten, thanks to the soybean price drop. That was a clean spot in the field and the rest was knee high in weeds. I took my Chocolate Lab Mosby on Monday when the season opened at 12 p.m. and it reached almost a 100 heat index, so I could not hunt as he was overheated and I had to put him in the truck in the ac and take him home. Then like a dummy I did not take him Tuesday morning when we could hunt at daybreak and looking for doves in the weeds cost me some birds. Thought it was too hot when I got up but it was ok in the open field. The gun is a two barrel set and Monday with the M & F I missed quite a few easy ones but I got smarter and the .006 and .022 on the number one set of barrels made for better shooting.

I am glad you are taking care of your dog. I have a Black Lab, Mazie, and during the dove season we only hunt a couple of hours first thing in the morning.
