What did you add to your Fox collection in 2018?

Post by fox-admin »

Many great Fox guns hit the market this year what did you add to your collection? Kind of a thin year for me in terms of Foxes only one a real nice HE 32. How about you?

I guess a Fox gun just wasn’t in the cards for me this year but my Lefever collection grew by two.I often wonder what would have transpired if those two gentlemen had put their heads together? Mr. Fox just starting out and Uncle Dan in his twilight years.

I had a rather thin year on the Fox front as well. I only acquired one and it was a 32 inch Sterly 20 gauge that I had been eyeing in a friends collection. Cool gun that shoots like a dream.

Thanks

A good HE 32" is a good Fox year in most people's book. I had a good year, but no Foxes, unfortunately. I saw a 20 gauge Sterlingworth that needed work and was tempted, but then it disappeared. I really want to get a CE, preferably an early one, but maybe in 2019.

I actually thinned out the accumulation, selling off a 16 gauge Sterlingworth, a 12 gauge Sterlingworth, a very nice C 12 gauge and shook hands on selling an AE 12 gauge and a 20 gauge Sterlingworth. My custom gun is in Gournet's shop right now and he has been working on it so it should be done in a couple of months, so I needed to move things around. I also sold a Remington 1894 BE 12 gauge, a Parker G and a Baker Batavia Leader.

I was fortunate to add three Sterlys this year. A 16 ga. Very high condition 30” Philly gun, an early transition 12 ga. Savage ejector gun with strong colors and a 20 ga. Sterly S&UGG w/26” tubes. Alas, the 12 Ga. FE that Jay had at VFI just wasn’t in the cards this year! And yes...the year is not over yet!!

Sterlingworth 12 Pin-gun in high condition.
B-Grade 12. Very early straight grip gun. Pictures shared.
J-Grade 12. A bucket list gun for me. Pictures shared.
C-Grade 12. Early straight grip gun. Pictures to come.
AE-Grade 20. Late style gun. Pictures to come.

I spent much of 2018 learning more about Parkers and picked up a few.

2019 will be spent thinning the collection.

I really thinned the collection this year but added a few I couldn't pass up including a later Sterly Brush Ejector (26"), second gen AE 32 and the HE 32 that’s pictured here in several posts. All 12-gauge. Speaking of 32 inchers I also snagged a L C Smith Long Range and a Lefever G Grade.

A real nice flat side 30" Sterly, a just as nice Skeet and Upland Game, both 12 gauge and loaded up with color, and I have finally gotten inside my Kautsky trigger 30" Super Fox and found a fractured sear which has been welded and awaiting reassembly with the reshaped and recheckered forend wood. It remains to be seen whether the new-old H Grade stock will fit on the gun. The stock that came on the gun is firewood, but the new stock came from an H grade so may work. Stay tuned.
