Posting photos
I'm not sure this is in the right place but I need some help in posting a picture that says it's too big for this forum. How do you reduce the size?

Re: Posting photos
DarylIC,
You can utilize a hosting site to downsize a picture or you can e-mail to yourself and usually the e-mail platform will ask if you want to send it as a small, medium or large jpeg file. I select small or medium and then open the e-mail and save the pic as a new file.

Re: Posting photos
Daryl, if your computer is fairly new it probably has a Picture folder area with "Picture Tools" or "Picture Manager" and Paint software. If so you can easily edit the picture and resize it using Paint to something like 900 x 1200. "Save" the resized picture or "Save As" something else if you want to retain the original large size. Then post the resized picture as an attachment ….. "UpLoad Attachment" and follow that menu.

Re: Posting photos
I used to do it in photobucket, but then I forgot how. I asked a youngster (23) how to do it,and he was able to show me. This might not be the best way, but it's simple enough for me to remember. I take pictures with a camera, and then save them in a file on my laptop. When I find the picture that I want to import, I right click on it. When I "right click", I get a drop down menu. I then bring the cursor to "open with" which presents another menu box, and I click on "paint". I have now opened the picture with something called "paint", and it gives me a huge version of the picture (lot's bigger than than my screen will show). Now, if I look at the upper corner of my screen, I can find "resize". Click on "resize". I box titled "resize and skew" pops up. Notice the words "horizontal" and "vertical". Next to each of those words is a box with "100" in it. For my pictures, I need to change the 100 to "30". Then click okay. After clicking on Okay, go to the upper left hand corner and click on "File". Now, click "save as" and save your picture as a jpeg. This is a smaller version on your original picture. and it can be imported.
This process may seem complicated, but it works for me, and since I'm an "old dog", I can't be taught any new tricks. This is the way I have to do it. Jeff

Re: Posting photos
agreed
if you are not into photo editing, Paint is simple free way to do it
it goes by % so if you right click on the picture and select properties you can see the current size-
you need it down to one meg to post here- so its simple math to decide what percentage to cut it down to

Re: Posting photos
That is strange to me, Daryl. I have been posting photos using Photobucket (free) for more years than I care to remember, and still do, taking them with either a camera or my cell phone, and I've never had a problem with a picture being too large to post. I dunno whether to think I've just been lucky, or that there is something at work on the sites or computer I use that sizes them automatically. I'm more inclined to believe the latter.

Re: Posting photos
the difference is between posting a link to a photobucket stored image verses loading an image directly

Re: Posting photos
FWIW: I now use the "Snip Tool" feature for 99% of my internet posts. No need to screw with any hosting sites. Save the pic to your files then SNIP it. It'll reduce the file size of a 4-6MG image down to a few hundred kb, well below site maximums. I also employ it when copying/emailing Fox production cards to members. Works great....an awesome tool from the "Tool" himself!!
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....
