Finished restocking my Fox Sterlingworth

I reassembled my Fox 16 GA today. The stock work is done other than the checkering, which will be done this winter after bird season closes. I had a couple of heart stoppers while putting it back together. The first was, I couldn't get the right bbl to fire, I took it apart but couldn't see anything wrong, put it back together again, still couldn't fire the right bbl, took it apart and removed the left and right sear, under the right sear was a small ledge that was from sealing the stock with glass, dremal to the rescue. I turned the stock over to put it back together again, forgetting the trip spring was not contained by the screw, as I turned it over I saw something fall to the floor, trip spring, if you have ever had one of these apart, you know how small it is, I sat there for a moment, afraid to move and step on it, off to my right on the gray colored floor sat the spring, if it had gone the other way it would be lost for ever. It's back together now and all systems are go.

I suppose all that is left is post post some photos from the grouse you will shoot next week with the gun.

After the season is over I will try my hand at checkering. I left the wood a little proud on the forearm so if I mess up I can take it down a little and start over. I have not yet decided on whether or not I will put the medallions on the side. Mine did not have them on the orignal stock, or someone removed them at some time.

Medallions? Got me stumped on that one. What size are they and what location on the stock?

Sorry, I just wasn't sure just what they are called. I am referring to the raised portion of the stock just behind the action on the sides of the stock.

Grousehunter Nice to see a 16 ga. fox in the Idaho sage brush on my puter screen. did you have to carry water for the dogs?? as it was warm and dry. Did you see a lot of birds??? I hunted in the Arco area and their were more birds than in the last few years. The West Nile Virus was really hard on them in some areas. We encountered several Rattle snakes, Did not see many other hunters. Some really good checkering folks live in southern Idaho A fellow might get some pointers from them, they help me out all the time. Broken stocks inleting work ect.

We baged two "Eurasian collered doves" We gave them to a Idaho Fish and Game CO. He wanted to know just where we baged them, and was their any more. He called me at my home and had more questions. He said that we should kill them by any means, or any time day or night. I have had some spirited discussions with this person over the years and do not remember seeing him this worked up. Maybe someone on this board knows the story on this bird?? They are larger than a morning dove, darker in color and have a black collar on the back of their neck. All the CO would say is that they are an introduced species. and that was the problem .

GH, Those are called cheeks. I don't know if that's an official term or not. On factory Sterlingworth stocks they are blended over into the grip. Silvers had one restocked recently with raised cheeks and it looks really nice. Check out his post on that. Fred
