Pretty extreme way to hide a gun from her.

Longshot, after eagerly awaiting the pictures, I tore down several panels of my drop ceiling adjacent to what became my gunroom, but found no late Savage XE 20's in the rafters - RATS! Apropos Researcher's comments, I at first blew by the lack of frame rebates, however lasered in on the top tang lock screw! What a great gun!! Kevin

I in my youth worked for Orkin Exterminating Company. Was up in a lot of attics and old root cellars looking for termites and other critters. Found a lot of old stuff stuck in those places. Was a great place to collect vintage beer cans from the 30's. Sadly never found a Fox or any gun other then an old Iver Johnson single shot that covered in rust that had turned into a low tech tomato stake.

Did you get any more information about the history of your gun from Griffin and Howe?

Eightbore, no new information, Bob Beach supplied the info about having the XE in inventory for 7 years in it's present configuration and some background info on the original owner but not much else.

What a great example!! Please share the story of how you learned about the gun and how the family knew it was in the wall! Very intriguing!

Foxnut, actually MARSHFELLOW gave me a heads up that a very original XE 20 would be in the spring Poulin's Auction, I too drank the KOOL- AID acquired the same addiction as all who peruse these pages. I have been fortunate enough to accumulate a number of smallbores and was missing an XE. The son of the former owner came over after the purchase and introduced himself and relayed the info about the XE being found hidden in wall which had been constructed in the 60's...... Longshot

Does that gun really weight 5 lb 6 ounces or did I misread the card? That would be the lightest Fox I've ever seen.

It's a great looking gun, no doubt about it. That does sound heavy. How heavy are the Foxes usually?

Steve said the gun actually weighs 5 lb. 8 oz.

It may be awhile before Steve drops back by here. He busies himself with a fair amount of big game hunting this time of year, I think.

Hey Stan, Buck is hanging on the front of the barn and none too soon as winter has arrived in the far North with a vengeance. It sure looks like 5 and 6 oz. on the card, I will have to scare up some digital scales and find out for sure. It sure is a dainty one.
