A.H Fox CE 1911 Value

Post by Tones »

Hi Guys,

First post on the forum. Just wanted to share some photos of a friends CE model.

It was his Grandfathers gun (he is 80 y.o. and not tech savvy understandable) and appears to be in good condition for age. It has minor marks/scratches on the wood, light surface rust to some areas, in general needs a good clean. Barrels seem to lockup tight.

He is cleaning out his gun safe slowly and does not have any need for the shotgun, unfortunately he has no idea of what it is worth.

If it was a military surplus rifle I'd be of decent help but with antique shotguns I have no experience.

Is anyone able to give a rough value estimate?

Regards,

Tones.

If the barrels are long and stock dimensions are good I was thinking $3500.00.

If you decide to clean the gun PLEASE BE Very careful!! Do not use anything but Hoppe's #9 and a Frontier Pad. I would strongly advise against steel wool. Clean the wood with mineral spirits and a soft rag---no steel wool or any abrasive. You want to preserve the patina on the gun not make it look new.

Alas I didn't measure them, but I'd say at least 28" by my eyemometer.

Are longer barrels more desirable in the shotgun world?

Thanks fox-admin, for something of collectors value like this I would usually carefully disassemble with the correct fitting hollow ground bits, clean using dry rags/cue-tips and then final clean/polish with renaissance wax and reassemble.

Terc, what are 'good' stock dimensions?

IMO 28" are better then 30" but not as good as 26 and not nearly as good at 32".
