Fox Barrel Markings

Post by grouse28 »

When did the "Made by" A H Fox first appear on the barrels rather than just A H Fox?

As far as I know, they always had the "MADE BY" in them. On the early guns with Krupp barrels it was KRUPP FLUID STEEL MADE BY on the right barrel and A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. on the left. When they went to the longer steel logo CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL on the right barrel the MADE BY was moved to the left MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA.U.S.A. On some of the highest grade guns where the barrel legends were hand engraved there are variations.

Ah, thanks Researcher. The secret is in the barrel steel. I couldn't connect the dots!
