FACTORY LETTERS
It has been several years since I requested a factory letter. What is the procedure now ? I am sending my collection to Charlton Hall Auction next week and am short a few letters.

Re: FACTORY LETTERS
I looked up the Savage Arms Historical Information site only to find a note stating they are no longer able to provide historical info on Fox, Stevens or Savage products. The note sends the reader to Mr. John Callahan in MA. Is this legit and has anyone used his services to get info on their Fox guns?

Re: FACTORY LETTERS
For that kind of cash, I would think twice before sending for a letter, especially if it just has the barrel length and when it was shipped.

Re: FACTORY LETTERS
Still a deal compared to a $100 letter for my Colt 1883 double which states that the finish is blue and the stock is wood!! As near as I can see the only blue finish is on the gun is the trigger guard!!

Re: FACTORY LETTERS
I can pretty much guarantee that they don't, based on the last letter I got. It had typos and missing information and was provided on cheap copy paper. To their credit they did replace it with corrections made when I complained; same crummy paper though. It was before this price increase, but I'd be surprised if they've changed anything.Rogue Hunter wrote:Hope they provide better/more info with that price increase.JasonPeck wrote:From communications with Savage the fees are now:

It was a great loss when Mr. Callahan retired. He always produced his letters on high quality paper so they looked like something, and the last one I got from him included a reproduction hang tag filled out with the details of my gun; a nice touch.
I have letters on all my guns except the last one I purchased, and while I'd like to have one for it I'm having a hard time justifying the price based on the product you get.

Re: FACTORY LETTERS
I recently ordered two letters. To other post here I received letters w/missing information. Provided drop at heel but not drop at comb, etc. etc. I realize sometimes the cards have missing information but it was odd that both cards would have the same information missing. Also, several typos and poor quality paper. For $45.00 for a Sterly and $55.00 for graded guns you would think more care would be taken. Hopefully with all of us providing feedback as well as the Savage 99 and Stevens guys they’ll get the message. Regards - foxnut
